RealityCapture 1.5 Release

RealityCapture 1.5 is now available to download from the Epic Games Launcher or via the new Epic Developer Portal with an updated pricing model. This latest release brings a number of new features and enhancements that accelerate texturing processes, yield better results, and increase the real-time performance of output meshes. There are also new export options and CLI commands, and more.

RealityCapture 1.5 Highlights

  • Improved texturing speed
    • Significant improvement in texturing speed following in-house optimizations, particularly for larger projects.
  • Relative paths for input files
    • Enable relative paths for input files when saving projects. This option can be found in the Application settings under Import and Export settings.
  • Scale depth maps on export
    • Set the distance multiplier in the Export Depth Maps and Masks dialog under the ‘Export Distance Scale’ option.
  • Mask layer in texturing
    • The mask layer can now be applied in alignment, meshing, and texturing. After importing, it can be enabled for the preferred processes in the Selected Input panel under Image Layers.
  • Option to create non-watertight models
    • Enable the ‘Remove marginal triangles’ option in the Reconstruction settings to create non-watertight meshes.
  • Export COLMAP files
    • The registration export now includes support for the COLMAP format.
  • Export DSM and DTM as 16-bit PNG files
    • Digital Surface Models and Digital Terrain Models can now be exported as 16-bit files, which can be used as height maps to create landscapes.
  • Larger UV islands with texture defragmentation
    • Enable chart defragmentation in the Unwrap settings to generate larger UV islands.
  • Higher bit depth support for photoconsistency texturing
    • Photoconsistency texturing is now supported with 16-bit and 32-bit images.
  • Export in USD or USDZ format
    • Export your model in the USD (Universal Scene Description) or USDZ (Zipped) format that is compatible with https://aousd.org/
  • Export normal maps with GLB format
    • You can now export normal maps when exporting models in GLB format.
  • Export radiance fields transformation file
    • Export your registration as a transforms.json file for radiance field methods.
